Know what you are buying

No jargon and nothing dressed up. The questions that decide which floor suits your space, and how to make it last once it is down.

Buying guide

How to choose a floor you will not regret

Traffic, moisture, noise, pets and budget — the five questions that narrow seven ranges down to one.

Start with the room, not the look

A floor that is wrong for the room will disappoint no matter how good it looks in the showroom. Work out whether the space gets water, heavy traffic, direct sun or pet claws before you look at a single sample.

Be honest about traffic

An entry hall and a spare bedroom are not the same problem. Hallways, stairs and living areas carry most of the wear in a house, and they are worth spending more on.

Water decides a lot

If a room can flood — laundry, bathroom, kitchen — that rules out laminate and solid timber straight away, and points you at hybrid, vinyl or tile.

Noise matters more in apartments

Hard floors bounce sound. In a unit, acoustic underlay is often a body-corporate requirement, not an upgrade.

Budget the whole job

The price per square metre is not the price of the floor. Underlay, subfloor preparation, removal of the old floor, trims and installation all belong in the comparison.

What happens at a free measure and quote

What we check, what we bring, how long it takes and what you get afterwards.

It takes about an hour

For an average home, expect 45 minutes to an hour. Large or commercial sites take longer and may need a second visit.

We bring samples to you

Showroom lighting lies. Seeing a sample in your own room, in your own light, next to your own walls, is the only reliable way to choose a colour.

We check the subfloor

Levels, moisture and the existing floor all affect the price. Checking them up front is what stops a quote changing later.

You get it in writing

A written quote that itemises product, underlay, preparation, installation and rubbish removal — so you can compare it properly against anyone else’s.

Care guide

Looking after carpet

Vacuuming, spills, dents and when to call a professional cleaner.

Vacuum more than you think

Most carpet wear is grit cutting the fibre from below, not foot traffic from above. Weekly vacuuming in living areas does more for the life of a carpet than anything else.

Blot spills, never rub

Work from the outside of a spill inwards with a clean white cloth. Rubbing drives the stain into the backing and distorts the pile.

Furniture dents lift out

Dents from furniture legs usually recover with a damp cloth, light steam and a brush against the pile.

Professional clean every 12–18 months

Hot water extraction every year or so keeps a warranty valid on most carpets. Check your warranty paperwork for the exact interval.

Care guide

Looking after timber, hybrid and vinyl

The short list: felt pads, a damp mop, no steam, and mats at the door.

Felt pads on everything

Chair and table legs cause more damage to hard floors than anything else. Pads are the cheapest insurance you will ever buy.

Damp mop, not wet

Use a well-wrung microfibre mop and a cleaner made for your floor type. Standing water is the enemy of every hard floor except tile.

No steam mops

Steam forces moisture through the joints of timber, laminate and hybrid floors. It voids most warranties.

Mats at every entry

Grit tracked in from outside is what dulls a finish. A decent entry mat catches most of it.

Mind the sun

Direct sunlight fades timber and some vinyls unevenly. Blinds and the occasional rug rotation keep the colour consistent.
